The annual competition is between sides of each of the three remaining Clubs whose greens were constructed by Mr. Ray Spooner, namely Cheddington. Wing and Winslow. The competition comprises 2 games, each of 11 ends.
In each Game, the Winslow teams played 2 teams from Cheddington and 2 teams from Wing. 10 points are awarded for a win, 5 points for a draw plus 1 point for each end won.
In Game 1, skips Cliff Geary and Len Ward both secured a win and John Gilbeys team secured a draw with a 4 shot win on the last end. At this point Winslow had secured 49 points to be in 2nd place and Wing were holding 1st place with 53 points. Cheddington were in 3rd place with 24 points.
In Game 2, only Len Ward’s team won again so Winslow lost ground to Wing, but we held on to 2nd place in the competition despite a Game 2 revival from Cheddington.
Congratulations to Len’s team, Norman Line, Kate Probert, Tony Lawrence and Len Ward for their win in both games.
The final result, a win for Wing who scored 108 points, with Winslow in 2nd place with 78 points and Cheddington 3rd with 66 points. President Len Ward presented the Spooner trophy to the Wing Captain.
Whilst shots scored is not used in the calculation, it is interesting to know that Wing scored 75 shots with a shot difference of +12, Winslow scored 74 shots with a shot difference of -3, and Cheddington scored 63 shots with a shot difference of -9.
