The 2024 Nominated Pairs competition took place on Monday the 26th August. With fine weather in prospect for the afternoon 15 pairs teams were ready and eager to play. It was good to see so many of the club’s new members taking part.
All six rinks were in use for the matches which were played over five rounds of competition.
There were 15 teams, as follows:
1 | Jane Stainforth, Kate Probert | 2 | Lucy Comerford, Richard Russell | 3 | Fiona Reese, Rosie Griffiths |
4 | Valerie Gomersall, John Gomersall | 4 | Sheila Cadge, John Gilbey | 6 | Roger Hayman, Mick Bigby |
7 | Victor Griffiths, Colin Bishopp | 8 | Norman Line, John Jeacock | 9 | John Thorogood, Tony Burrows |
10 | Les Truett, Darren Yearwood | 11 | Diana Lawrence, Tony Lawrence | 12 | Steve Church, Harry Ardill |
13 | Trish Goymer, Robin Galvin | 14 | Randell Moll, David Midwinter | 15 | David Curtis, Chris Reeves |
Each team played “mini-matches” of five ends against four other teams chosen at random.
Two points were scored for a win and one for a draw.
The winning team would be the one with the most points and, in the event of a tie, then the team with a greater shot difference. If there was still a tie, the total number of shots would be the final deciding factor.
Thanks to Colin Bishopp for preparing the scorecards and for completing the analysis after the game.
The result: Six teams scored 6 points.
With 6 points and the largest shot difference by some margin were Victor Griffiths and Colin Bishopp (Team 7) and they were declared as winners of the competition. Runners up were Sheila Cadge and John Gilbey (Team 5)
All players seemed to enjoy the competition which was played in a sporting and friendly atmosphere.
