On Sunday 13th September we made the short trip to Bletchley to play St Martins Bowls Club with 4 triples. We started on time and played around 6 ends before the rain came. After about an hour the rain eased up and we all went back on the green to continue the match. However within a few minutes the rains returned and the match was abandoned for the day. Each triple had played 7 or 8 ends.
A finger buffet was provided as well as drinks from the bar and then the BStM captain, Lin, spoke briefly and announced that Winslow had won the match. This rather took me by surprise as my summary of the score cards showed us as the loser. Not being able to resolve the issue immediately I thanked the club for its hospitality and claimed one winning rink consisting of Pete Joyner/Andrew Vivers, Victor Griffiths and myself. Subsequently on re-examining the score cards it was discovered that Roger Hayman had transposed the scores on his card and so it turned out that Winslow had indeed won the match by 27 shots to 21.
Final note - Andrew Vivers and Margaret Fryer were both playing in their first game for the club but unfortunately due to the weather only had the opportunity to bowl 3 woods on the final end before abandonment.
